In words, it’s “1 over ‘x’ minus 1 over ‘x+1’ is equal to 3”.
I need to find the value of “x”. How would I go about doing this?

the first thing I would do would be to get rid of the fractions. In order to do this you need to multiply by your denominators. Lets work with one at a time. So, we get
x(1/x) – x(1/(x+1))=x(3) which becomes 1-x/(x+1)=3x
Next we’ll do the second fraction, giving us
(x+1)1-(x+1)x=(x+1)3x which becomes x+1-x^2+x=3x^2+3x
now lets move all terms to the left side of the equation…this gives us
-4x^2-x+1=0
finally, use your quadratic equation to figure the rest out
