Multi-step linear equations algebra homework help?

So… simple, algebra 1 linear equations…. I just really don’t understand this problem.

c+1 / 8 = c / 4

(/= divided by)

so… can you please explain it and the steps that go with it?

Thanks so much!

I’m guessing you mean (c+1)/8 = c/4

If it is then, you have

(c+1)/8 = c/4

Multiply both sides by 8

(8)(c+1)/8 = (8)(c/4)

On the left side, the 8’s will cancel each other out and on the right side, you get 8/4, which is 2, so you have

c+1 = 2c

Now, subtract ‘c’ from both sides

c-c+1 = 2c-c

1=c

So your answer is c=1.

I hope this helps you.

c+(1/8)=(1/4c) Rewrite as

(1/8)=(1/4c)-c subtract like kinds

1/8=(1/4c)-(4/4c) multiply by 4 for common denominator

1/8=-3/4

(-4/3)(1/8)=c divide fractions by flipping and multiplying

-4/24=c

-1/6=c
