(x – h)2 + (y – k)2 = r2
From this equation we can get the followings :
The center of the circle is : c ( 2 , -3 )
The radius of the circle is : r = 4/5
You need to show that the distance from the center of the circle to that line is equal to the raduis of the circle.
The formula is :
p(m,n) , d = Ax + By + C
d = Am + Bn + C / rad(A2+B2)
(rad = squar root)
Using this formula and the information we get :
d =( 3*2 + 4* -3 + 10 ) / rad (9 + 16)
d = ( 6 – 12 + 10 ) / rad 25
d = 4/5
we can see that the distance from the line to the center of the circle is equal to the radius ,
d = r
So the line is tangent to the circle.
