Honey;

Your problem is not a stupid as you think, but neither very difficult, I’ll try to explain it as well as I can.

The ratio is: 1:3

so, to get 4 ounces of pink paint (1+3) you need 1 ounce of white and 3 ounces of red.

In other words, you need one quarter of white plus three quarters of red to get one ounce of pink.

Let us suppose that:

X= white, Y=red, z= pink

If you need 12 ounces of pink, that means you have too multiplicate 12 per the above mentioned quarters, so the relation will be:

12 (1/4) X= 3X

12 (3/4)Y= 9Y

If you sum:

3X+9Y= 12 Z

So, to get 12 ounces of pink, you need 3 ounces of white, and 9 ounces of red.

That’s it.

If you need any help for painting, just call 😉

Have a nice time

If it takes 1 part of white and 3 parts red, so there is a total of 4 parts. It is really that simple.

So, you would need to divide 12 oz into 4 parts to determine how many oz’s are in a ‘part’. Then the number of oz’s of red is 3 X the oz’s in one part.

12 divided by 4 = ___

3 X ___ =___oz

I am using the common way one would state the ratio and that is that white was the first ‘color’ in the statement and red was the 2nd. So white is 1 part and red is 3 parts. Had the statement read ‘red and white paint’ then it would be 1 part red and 3 parts white.

a) 4

you put 12 into the equation which would be

1:3 = x:12

divide 12 by the number in the 1st ratio which is 3 so 12/3 = 4

so put 4 into the 2nd ratio to become 4:12

from the 1st ratio you times 4 by 1 and 4 by 3 to get 4:12

all you have to do is find out what 1/3 of 12 so you divide 3 into 12 which is 4
