the main message is trying to portray the utter disaster that is war, and how senseless and useless it is, and not at all like the idealized thoughts of the people

war is bad.
haha. Seriously though, it’s an incredibly complex book that you could devote months of study too. Ask any person and you’ll get a different answer, depending on their focus and interpretation.
