MaTH PROBLEM HELP ME AGAIN??

A retiree divides his pension portfolio of $270,000 between a conservative mutual fund paying at a rate of 4% and high risk bonds paying at a rate of 8%. Both invetments pay the same amount of interest annually. How much is investd in each investment??

Since the interest rate for the high risk bonds is twice the interest rate for the conservative mutual funds, then the retiree must have invested twice as much in the latter (mutual fund) vs the former (bonds). If we use algebra:

Let x = investment amount in bonds

Then 2x = investment amount in mutual funds

x + 2x = 270,000

3x = 270,000

x = 90,000

That means the retiree invested $90,000 in high risk bonds, and $180,000 in mutual funds.

he split the 270,000 into 2 investments… how much is invested in each one

270,000/2= 135,000 in each one

they just tell u what hes maken on each one to through u off
