Math Problem??

In 1993 the life expectancy of males in a certain country was 61.2 years. In 1999 it was 63.6 years. Let e represent the life expectancy in year t and let t represent the number of years since 1993.

The linear function that fits the data is?

E(t) = ?t + ?

Use the function to predict the life expectancy of males in 2007.

“In 1993 the life expectancy of males in a certain country was 61.2 years” corresponds to the point (0,61.2)

“In 1999 it was 63.6 years” corresponds to the point (6,63,6)

Find the slope between the points (this value is m)

Then plug it into the formula y = mx + b.

m stands for the slope and b is the y-intercept.

Since (0,61.2) represents that y-intercept, that means b = 61.2

b) Now you should have the equation y = mx + 61.2, where m is the value that you calculated above.

Replace x with 14 to get your answer.

Note: y and x are just variables. In this case you would have “e” instead of “y”, and “t” in place of “x”
