Is this a good thesis statement for my AP US History DBQ?

Prompt:

In what ways did the French and Indian War (1754-63) alter the political and ideological relations between Britain and its American colonies?

My Thesis Statement:

Prior to the French and Indian War the colonists enjoyed salutary neglect, but soon after the defeat of France and the acquirement of French land, the almighty British implemented mercantilism, settlement restrictions, and several controversial duties in the colonies.

Is my thesis statement good enough, or should I reword it, or should I make a completely new one?

I would go more into depth. Your thesis statement is good, but a little vague. How did the British implement mercantilism and settlement restriction? What are the controversial duties? You need to state that in your thesis to make a claim.

It might help if you started writing your paper. After you are done with your rough draft you could re-evaluate your thesis statement and make it less broad. You have a nice start, just tighten it up after you complete the body of your essay!

It’s a very long run on sentence. Also, mercantilism was not implemented after the French and Indian War. I would refrain from calling them the almighty British, it gives a negative connotation to what should be a more impersonal paper. If you are going to mention “several controversial duties” be specific, and who are they controversial to?

Good luck!
