if you have read the color of water please help!?

While reading the descriptions of the children’s hunger, why didn’t Ruth seek some kind of assistance?

I’ve read the book and jot down notes, but i can not find a place in the book were it tells me why she disliked to have assistance like welfare etc..

I think the quote “White folks, she felt, were implicitly evil towards blacks…Blacks could be trusted more, but anything involving blacks was probably substandard.” shows that she distrusted welfare because it was provided by the white man for blacks.

I also think that her devotion to her faith and her love of God cause her to believe that God would overcome all obstacles for her and her family.

I don’t agree with the way she felt but her position and beliefs seem absolute and there would be no swaying of her position. The book is rather intense and can be difficult to process everything that happens and why but I hope my opinions help you in some way.
