2x=Twice the size of the smaller string

2x+x=126

3x=126

x=42

2x=84

Longer one is 84

Shorter one is 42

You get 2x+x=126

then 3x=126

x=126/3

x=42

So you go back. You found the length of the smaller piece, x. It is 42.

The other piece being 2x, has to be calculated: 2(42)=?

2(42)=84. 84 cm is the length of the other piece.

Don’t forget to label your answers! I used to get them wrong; the numbers were right, I just didn’t label it. 🙁

Solve for X. I think this works! It’s been a long time. I tried to work it out and it seemed to make sense. I don’t think I should just give you the answer though!

divide 126 by 3 so string length is 42

one length is 42 and the ones thats doubled is 84
