Its actually really easy!!

1) 10x-(-3x+5)=0

subtract the 10x from both sides : 10x -10x-(-3x+5)= -10x

then distribute the negative: 3x-5= -10x

then subtract the 3x from both sides : 3x-3x-5= -10x-3x

Then divide by 13: -5/13= -13x/13 (there fractions which means divide)

therefore x= – 5/13 (fraction) and thats your answer!

2) I’m gonna switch the order around so it looks better :16+ 1/5x =30

Now subtract 16 from both sides: 16-16+ 1/5x=30-16

Then 1/5x=14 so multiply by the reciprocal to both sides:

1/5 x * 5x=14*5

Therefore x= 70

1) 10x- (-3x + 5) = 10x + 3x + 5 = 13x + 5

2) 30 = 16 + 1/5x = 30 – 16 = 1/5x = 14 = 1/5x = 14 * 5 = x x = 70

1) 10x-(-3x+5)

10x +3x -5 (Distribute)

13x-5 (add like term.)

2) 30=16+1/5x

14=1/5x (Subtract 16 from both sides)

70=x (multiply by 5 to get rid of fraction)

For the first one… I’m guessing you’re supposed to simplify it? You can just collect like terms…

10x – (-3x + 5) = 10x + 3x + 5 = 13x + 5

For the second, you can actually solve this so again, just collect like terms and solve for x.

30 = 16 + (1/5)x

14 = (1/5) x

5*14 = x

x = 70

To check, you can always plug back in to see 🙂

16 + (1/5)(70) = 16 + 14 = 30.

1) re-written 10x+3x-5. So final answer 13x-5

2) assuming its (1/5)x not 1/(5x), re-write as 14=(1/5)x. Multiplying both sides by 5 gives x=70.

10x – (-3x+5)

10x + 3x -5

13x -5

30 = 16 + 1/(5x)

14 =1/(5x)

70x=1

x= (1/70)= 0.0142857

or

30 = 16 +(1/5)x

14 = (1/5)x

70=x

it depends on where the x is on which answer you need
