How would carbonate and alkali react?

when put together? like maybe CO3 and NaOH? Please provide the chemical sentence. Also, how can you test whether the nature of a liquid is alkaline? Any experiments? thank u

I would assume it would be the same as when an acid and a carbonate react (ie. it produces Carbon dioxide, a salt and water). You can test how basic (aka alkali- dunno how to write it properly) a liquid is by using litmus paper, but there ids two types, pink and blue. one is acidity, one is basic. sorry i can’t help you more, i did this ages ago so i have forgot the finer details!
