How tall is a tree that casts a 25 FT. Shadow at the same time a 9 FT light pole casts a 15 Ft shadow?

Do anyone have any idea on how to do this?

It’s a ratio thing…

light pole 9/15

tree x/25

9/15=x/25 (multiply each side by 15)

9=15x/25 (Simplify fraction)

9=3x/5 (Multiply each side by 5)

3x=45 (Divide each side by 3)

x=15

A 15 ft tree will cast a 25 ft shadow if a 9 ft light ploe casts a 15 ft. shadow.

It’s not too difficult. You make a ratio of the side lengths: 9 ft / 15 ft = x ft / 25 ft, then solve for x. It works because the shadows are being cast at the same time, so you have similar triangles. That means the ratios of their side lengths have to be the same.

9ft/15ft = x/25ft, then cross-multiply then divide:

9 x 25 = 15x

225 = 15x

225/15 = 15x/15

15 = x

The tree is 15 feet tall.

set it up as a ratio

9/15 x/25

cross multiply and divide.

x=15
