Well what aspect of the Colonies are you looking to describe? The different cultural developments of New England vs. the Middle Colonies vs. the South? Religion in North America? Crime in England and the English “solution” of sending convicts to the New World? The end of the Native American tribes as more settlers cultivated their lands and brought disease (Squanto was actually from a village COMPLETELY wiped out by disease for instance)? I think you need to narrow your topic before you can answer your own question…

Your introduction should contain 3 sentences:
1. The first sentence should be a general statement about the topic.
2. The second sentence should be the opposing argument
3. The third sentence should be what you will argue
A history essay is an argumentatve essay not a descriptive essay. Each paragragh should contain your point with evidence to support your view and counter any opposing views. Don’t put information in your essay just for the sake of it. Every piece of info you include should be edidence to support your argument. Not sure what level you’re studying at so I hope this is not too advanced for your level. Good Luck.

The first thing you should try to do is to brainstorm for 10 min. See what the main idea of the essay is and what type of essay you are trying to write. If it is merely informative, you should decide what exactly you want to focus on. What about the English colonies? Do you want to discuss how dificult a time the colonists’ had once they got here? Do you want to talk about them gaining independence? Narrow your subject down. Then you can go from there.

Every essay has an introduction, body, and a conclusion. Start your introduction with an interest catching device that leads into talking a little about the Treaty of Versailles. You want to include some background info on it, but not too much. The point is to lead into your thesis (last sentence of introduction), which is your position on its fairness and the reasons why you think the way you do. The reasons become your body paragraphs.

people came to america to escape (whoever the king was) and the spread out around the north east and atlantic shores. those people then created, what is known as today, the 13 colonies….
