Many, many people tried, some others are Alexander the Great, Ghengis Khan (Mongols).
Both almost succeeded.
I’ll add some more later if i can think of others.

Ghengis Khan, Some English monarchs like Queen Victoria and King George, the Japanese Emperor that invaded China thousands of years ago, many Roman Emperors like Julius Ceasar, Alexander the Great, some Emperors from ancient Egypt like Nefertiti, some people might even argue that Stalin should be on that list and, of course, Pinky and the Brain…
