How Does KCL Stop the Heart?

Hi, I have to write a short essay over how KCL stops the Heart. I’ve looked on google for like 3 hours and can’t find the exact pinpointed reason. If you could help that would be majorly appreciated. Thanks.

The process is called cardioplegia. Potassium stops the electromechanical activity of the heart. It is usually applied in open heart surgeries using a combination of chemicals and at a low temperature.

KCL is one of the bodies essential electrolytes. It and NaCl have to stay in very close balance to keep the heart beating correctly. Too little or too much of either can cause arrhythmias… lots of either can cause the heart to stop. Look up electrolyte imbalance and cardiac arrhythmias for more information.
