how do you find the slope?
Favorite Answer
If you are given the coordinates of 2 points, subtract the y coordinates and then the x coordinates and write as a ration. (y1-y2)/(x1-x2)
Given an equation if it is put into the form of y=mx+b where m and b are numbers, then the m is the slope
In Algebra terms:
If points (X1,Y1) and (X2,Y2) are on a line, the slope is
(Y2-Y1) / (X2-X1).
ie.)
Given points (3,4) and (5,8) the slope is 2.
(8-4) / (5-3) => 2
if given two points; (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) (note: either point can be 1 or 2); simple compute
(y2-y1) / (x2-x1)
if you are given an equation like 2y = 3x + 8
put it into the standard point intercept format of
y = mx + b where m becomes the slope and
b becomes the y-intercept
for example it becomes y = (3/2)x + 4
so; slope is 3/2 and y-intercept is 4
Note: y-intercept is where line crosses the y-axis (vertical axis)!
Just remember there are some slopes that are for more experienced skiers.
its y2-y1/x2-x1 aka 4-3/2-1
