No, the whole town viewed Boo as a reclusive, mysterious and scary character. Not much was known about him and horrifying rumours were spread about him.

At first, Scout and Jem believe these rumours and sort of do mean things relating to Boo.

After a while, they stop, and Jem begins to understand Boo better.

Boo saves their lives in the end, and Scout finds that he isn’t scary at all. Rather, she treats him a bit like a child when she leads him back to his house.

Hope this helps. =)

You have to verify this because it’s been a long time since I read it but: Scout & Jem are interested in Boo as a potential friend. They’re worried about how he can live hidden like that and they are interested in his past, but they are most interested in an innocent way in how they can help him and make him their friends. Adults carry baggage and secret motives but children, for the most part, are what they seem. They want everyone to enjoy life, be happy, and get a chance to play.
