I would use constuction paper, green and brown; cut and fold it into several branches on top, a coconut or two, and the trunk. If there is more to put on the tree from the book, put up one or two of them, whatever color they are.
For ideas on how to fold paper to make it stand out, get an origami book (they’re inexpensive) and look at it… it will provide lots of ideas.
Also you may want a plain picture of a palm tree to guide you.
