So, you divide 4.79 by 5, to find out how much it costs for 1 pound of apples. then multiply by 8:

4.70/5 = 0.958

0.958×8=7.664 so it’s 7 dollars and 66 cents. (7.66)

when you round, let’s say you want to round 2.567 at 1 decimal place. if the second decimal place number is 5 or higher (in this case it’s 6) then you round the first decimal place (5) to 6. If it was 2.537, because it’s 3 and not 5 or higher you leave the 5 at 5.

hope it helped! good luck!

Very good. All is about proportions:

If 5 pounds cost 4.79, how much would it cost 8 pounds.

Your answer is right: 7.664 but we cannot pay 7.664 at store, so we round it to the nearest cent that is 7.66 Why? because 4 is nearer to zero than to 9, so we simply omit it.

Good luck

By Golly ….I think you’ve got it!!

If you divide $4.79 by 5 = $ .958 per pound

then $ .958 times 8 pounds = $7.664

So…..since we don’t have any money that equals $.664 cents it has to be rounded up to the next higher number . Remember that the number 6 is more than half, meaning you round up, so…..it’s $7.66 for 8 pounds of apples.

P.S. Be sure to remember to write down all the money symbols and pounds of apples for full credit.

it is not glaring to evaluate 3/8 and a pair of/3, yet seem at it this type: might you somewhat slice a pie into 3 products and take 2 (2/3 of a pie), or slice it into 8 products and take 3 (3/8 of a pie)? in case you like pie, you will probable make the 1st decision, and that’s because of the fact 2/3 is larger than 3/8. subsequently 3/8 < 2/3. the maths thank you to try this is to multiply the left aspects by way of 3/3 and the impressive area by way of 8/8 (the two are fancy techniques of writing a million). then you definately've 9/24 on the left area and sixteen/24 on the impressive area. Now the selection on the backside is an identical and it rather is lots greater handy to evaluate; for sure 9/24 < sixteen/24. In different words, you're reducing the pie into 24 products; 3/8 of the pie is comparable to taking 9 products, and a pair of/3 of the pie is comparable to taking sixteen products.

($4.79 for 5 lb) * 8/5 = the price for 8 pounds.

Explanation: you are dividing by five, and multiplying by eight.

($4.79*8)/5 = $38.32/5 = $7.664 =$7.66, because you usually don’t have “tenths” of a cent.

Are you doing proportions yet? Like, do 4.79 over 5 = x over 8. Multiply 4.79 by 8 and divide it by 5. You get 7.60.

the easiest way is to find out how much a pound is.

you do this by..

4.79/5=.958 cents per pound

then

.958 x 8 =7.664

so you are correct $7.66 for 8 pounds

Your answer is right. To round to the nearest cent, it’s $7.66. In rounding, go to the digit to the right of where you’re rounding to. If that number is 5 or more, you round up. In your case, it’s 4, so you just drop the 4 to get $7.66.

I don’t have a calculator but….enter 4.79 divided by 5. That is how much ONE pound will be. So take that number and multiply by 8.

cents take two places behind the decimal. you round up after 5 and round down before 5.

so you stop with .66 and then have to determine if the last 6 goes up or down. the next number is 4 so you have to……

round up and change the last 6 to 7? or round down and leave the 6 as it is?

i’ll let you do the last step.
