Homework help!! Functions – scenario represented by an equation..?

I have 10 of these for homework. && I don’t understand them. So could you please help me with this problem so I can use it as an example for all the rest? Thank you!!

A golf ball is hit with an initial velocity of 130 feet per second at an inclination of 30 degrees to the horizontal. In physics, it is established that the height [h] of the golf ball is given by the function

h(x)= -32x^2 / 130^2 + x

Where x is the horizontal distance that the golf ball has traveled.

a. Determine the height of the golf ball after it has traveled 100 feet.

b. 300 feet

c. 500 feet

d. How far was the golf ball hit?

(a)

-32*100^2 / 130^2 + 100

= -32*10^4 / 169*10^2 + 10^2

= 10^2(1 – 32/169)

= 81.07ft.

(b)

10^2(1 – 9*32/169)

= 70.41ft.

(c)

10^2(1 – 25*32/169)

= 37.34ft.

(d)

If x is the distance travelled, then h(x) = 0.

x – 32x^2 / 130^2 = 0

(32/16900)x^2 – x = 0

x((32/16900)x – 1) = 0

x = 0 or x = 16900/32 = 528.12

The golf ball was hit 528.13ft..
