Homework help!?

I have a math question i need help on! It’s about population so if anyone could help that would be great!

China- 1,261,832,000

India- 1,014,004,000

U.S- 275,563,000

Indonesia- 224,784,000

Brazil- 172,860,000

The population of the world in 2000 was approximately 6,080,142,000. What percent of the world population was the total population of these five countries in 2000?

Does anyone know how to do this??

1) to get a percentage you need a fraction.

2) The bottom number(denominator) is always the total. In this case 6,080,142,000

3) The top number(numerator) is what you are looking for. In this case it is the percent of the population in the 5 countries. Add them up.

4) Top number divided by bottom number. Get a decimal answer. First 2 numbers after the decimal is the percent.

5) I would round off because the numbers are so big. You might use exponential notation. As for me, I would round off. With numbers this big, I think rounding off will give an answer close enough.

Good Luck!

Add the countries together and then divide by the total population. That will give you a decimal. Move the decimal over to the right 2 places to give you a percentage.

1,261,832,000

1,014,004,000

275,563,000

224,784,000

172,860,000

2949043000

2949043000 / 6,080,142,000

calculate that, and multiply by 100
