An action verb is the main verb of the sentence. It’s what the subject is doing. Helping verbs change the tense. Examples:
I wait on my brother after school. Wait is the action verb, there is no helping verb.
I am waiting on my brother after school. Am is the helping verb and waiting is the main verb.
I have waited on my brother after school. Have is the helping verb and waited is the main verb.
