need some help with understanding these quotes.

“The strongest of men will fall to fate if he has no judgement.”

“First entrap the bird, and where shall the chicks run then?”

“The heavens roared, the earth rumbled back an answer; between them stood I before an awful being, the somber-faced man-bird; he had directed on me his purpose. His was a vampires face, his foot was a lion’s foot, his hand was an eagle’s talon.”

“…the house of dust…”

“Then I awoke like the man drained of blood who wanders alone in a waste of rushes…”

Not sure about all of them, but here’s my take on the ones I think I understand (hard to say without context though):

1. Wisdom is as important as brute strength. You could be the strongest man in the world but if you had a pea brain, you still wouldn’t be able to defend yourself because you wouldn’t be able to think ahead of your actions and predict those of your opponent.

2. You know how when baby chicks are scared or something they run and hide under their mom’s wings? Well, I think this one means something similar to cutting off the snake’s head to kill the body. If you take away the leader/protector (the bird) then the chicks can’t go to her for protection or leadership, and they will be easily dealt with because they will run around in circles, not knowing what to do.

3. Can’t really tell without context

4. Maybe it’s talking about a deserted or abandoned or hopeless house? One that’s dry and full of death?

5. No idea what this is talking about.. probably a reference to some old myth or legend.
