The metric system is more universal, it’s simpler (uses mostly decimals rather than fractions in linear measure) and is generally considered more precise. English system is better only if you’re English or American, simply because change is just toooooooo difficult for us Americans.

The metric system is preferable because it is all based on the number “10” To convert from one measurement to another, all you have to do is move the decimal point. 100 millimeters = 10 centimeters. Try that with inches and feet.

The metric system is preferable because weights and volumes are tied together, making it easy to go from grams and kilograms to centimeters and liters, such as in fuel calculations for airliners or water for survival. 1 Kilogram of water = 1 Liter. Try figuring out how much a gallon of water weighs.

The English system is preferable because Americans are too lazy to convert to the metric system. If not for Liberia, the USA would stand alone as the only nation using the English system.

The English system is preferable because when you make a mistake in converting from one measurement to another, the error is pretty obvious as it is not just a case of misplacing a decimal point. 12 inches is NOT 1.2 feet nor is it 0.12 yards.

The metric system goes by 10’s and I think the English system refers to the olden days where(for example) a foot meant literally, the measurement of the kings’ foot. I don’t really remember though…

The metric system is actually easier to convert from one type of unit to the other.

Just use a multible of ten and you are done.

I guess in America, it is still used because of all the items done in the english system.

I really don’t know, why, but that is my guess.

Metric is much easier to do math with, but I visualize things better in feet and pounds; it’s almost impossible for me to imagine measurements of meters and kilograms.
