First note that the value in front of x in BOTH equations is the same: this 1/2 means that they have the same slope. I know it already tells you that they are parallel, but if they have the same slope they always parallel.

Now let’s figure out some points: for y=1/2x, when x =0, y=0 also. This means that the lines goes through 0,0 or the origin. You can figure each for other numbers too, such as 1,2,3 and 4, but since the lines are always the same distant apart, there’s no point (pun intended.)

Next figure a point for when x=0 for the other equation, y=1/2x+5. If x=0, then y=5.

Hence the second line goes through the point 0,5. How far is 0,0 to 0,5? if you answered 5, you got the right answer.

Now why did I choose 0 for a value? The answer is that it doesn’t matter but 0 just happens to give an easy answer since you see that in the first equation, if x=0, then y=0.

Please graph both of these lines on graph paper to understand it better. Just remember that the lines are always the same distance apart since they have the same slope.

I hope this explains it clearly for you.

5. y intercept is 5 higher than the other y intercept, because the other intercept is 0.
