I assume you are trying to write the equation in standard form of the line that passes thru these two points. And the first point I assume is (4,6).
First we need to find the slope. The slope formula is (y2-y1)/(x2-x1). From this we get (2-4)/(5-6) which equals (-2)/(-1) which simplifies to 2.
Next write the equation in point slope form[(y-y1) = m(x – x1): y-6 = 2(x-4)
Distribute 2 and you get: y – 6 = 2x – 8
Rearrange the terms so that it is in standard form:
-2x + y = 6 – 8
-2x + y = -2
2x – y = 2 STANDARD FORM
