gee ima tree[GEOMETRY] HELP?

ok so how do you put this in slope intercept form:

y-1=1/5(x+4)

AND how do i find and equation of the line that passes thru the point (3,8) and parallel to the line with the above equation…..?

You need y by itself, and no parentheses with x. So distribute the 1/5, then add 1 to both sides:

y = 1/5 x + 4/5 + 1

y = 1/5 x + 1 4/5

Parallel lines have equal slopes so the line through (3,8) is

y = 1/5 x + something.

Put in 3 for x and 8 for y: 8 = 1/5 (3) + something

Do this out and find the number that goes where “something” is to complete it.

just simplify it

y-1=1/5(x+4)

y-1=(1/5)x + 4/5

y=(1/5)x + 4/5 +1, since 1=5/5

y=(1/5)x + 9/5

and since its a parallel, the slope remains the same which is 1/5, so just replace -1 with 8, and 4 with 3, so you have

y-8=1/5(x+3), try to solve it yourself
