Well – I doubt you have over 4 thousand problems to do, so please try not to exaggerate.

When faced with a word problem, take it piece by piece, substituting math terms for the English.

Fifteen (15)

more than (+)

four times a number (4n)

is (=)

… now you do the rest to build the whole equation and solve for N

simple: 4n+15=5n+6

Why? 15 more(+15) than 4 times a number(4n) is(=) 6 more (+6) than 5 times the number (5n).

X more means +n, X times means Xn

I hope that helps with the other 4433 problems

4N + 15 = 6 + 5N

do the old ‘switcheroo…

N’s on one side, numbers on the other

switch signs, if you cross the = sign.

You get:

4N – 5N = 6 – 15

-1N = -9

therefore, N should be 9.

Plug it back into the original problem to check:

Fifteen more than four times NINE is 6 more than five times NINE.
