Hellooo I did this book last year and I can tell you and you probably know: it was a pain.
If you’ve gotten to the end of the book, you probably know that Martel used the animals as metaphors for the real characters (i.e. zebra= sailor). No one really knows which version of the story is the true kind, that’s for you to decide, depends on your perspective. So I would say the main metaphorical trick is the animal representation, which shows a different side of humans and tells that humans are in fact animals. when a human is put in animal form, it shows a more raw form of them, more true in a sense. hope this helped and good luck.
