3 branches of the government:

1)Legislative: gives a lot of power to the states to create laws.

2)Executive : manages the day-to-day activities of governing; oversees enforcement of laws (police force and military)

3)Judicial: Interprets laws

Basically, the legislative makes laws, the executive branch (which the president belongs to) has the power to veto them and the judicial branch interprets whether or not laws created by the legislative branch are constitutional.

No one branch of the government is the supreme power. They all keep each other in check.
