english literature question???

In some stories, the writer focuses on a conflict, or central problem. In others, characters and their development receive a strong emphasis.

Which type of story do you prefer – a story with a central conflict, or a story that shows a character’s development?

A good story has both central conflict along with character development. These types of stories make the reader more involved with the characters and maintains intrest longer.

I usually find the kind with the conflict more interesting. However, i would prefer a story that has both. A conflict is much more interesting if the characters involved in it have been developed well. Becasue then you get more involved and are more invested in how the conflict turns out and what happens to the characters you’ve gotten to know so well.

I am more into the character development. The character’s development always has to fold around an event or events that can be just as exciting as if the writer went with a central conflict.

I much prefer character development. Two of my favorites come to mind – Pride & Prejudice, and Count of Monte Cristo. Although these works do incorporate elements of conflict, they are far more weighted towards character development.

A good story has both a well planned plot AND well developed characters–if the plot is good but the characters are all flat, completely uninteresting–same goes for the reverse.
