Does anyone know anyhting about system equations?

Could you please explain to me how to solve the following? Fractions always mix me up. The direstions are as follows: Solve each system by any method, if possible. If the system is inconsistent or if the equations are dependant, so indicate.

The Problem is:

3/4x+2/3y=7

3/5x-1/2y=18

I think for both of them, the only way to simplify it is to do this…

3/4x + 2/3y = 7

subtract the 7 from both sides, which gives you…

3/4x + 2/3y – 7 = 0

You can’t simplify or solve it anymore because you can’t add x and y. …i think.

Same with the other problem, subtract 18 from both sides of the = sign.
