One of the coolest ones I’ve ever seen deals with waves, fire, and sound vibration. The Ruben’s tube. You can actually view the waves of sound by adding fire through a tube with openings about 1.5 cm apart and changing frequency of sound near the tube. There are some cool videos on the internet. You can also tie this into radio waves/doplar shift/etc. There are a lot of opportunities here. If you can keep it safe, the ruben’s tube is fun and intelligent. Just search google and you will probably find a video. Haha, found it.

I reproduce below a note on Science Fair Ideas from a site. I hope you will find it useful. Best of luck!

I like the Mythbusters approach. Find an urban myth and try to either reproduce it or debunk it.

You’ll have an interesting subject and show good science with either result.

I went to the state level in elementary school and the exhibition next to mine won. It was about aerodynamics. They made different airplanes and documented which ones went futher and why.

It was really neat.

I’d suggest looking at

www.factmonster.com

They have a section devoted to science project ideas, and at different difficulty/detail levels… really cool.

Good luck, and have fun with it!

This is an awesome site to look at. It seems like they have tons of grade-appropriate ideas, and they also give instructions.
