he uses his sons to show how much they have changed, and how that in time they’ve come to realize how their father has gone downhill. happy still lives in the world of delusion and grandeur while biff is disillusioned with his fathers dreams. so he uses willy’s sons’ lives as examples of willy’s problems. in the passage they are both nostalgic for the past. i hope that helps.
