x>3.5

this answer is actually correct despite the attempt of the person below me to undermine my efforts, my answer was done a different way which took a few more steps, the answer is right, yes, but they cannot say the order in which it is done is wrong, its like coloring a picture, you could use crayons or markers, although markers may be quicker, it doent mean that the crayons are the wrong way

the answer two below mine is also incorrect in saying this is the wrong way to answer this, this person answered this the same way i did, therefore if mine were wrong, then their’s is incorrect too

There are MANY ways to do each problem. Neither of the two previous answers answered the question in the wrong way. Everyone simply has their own way. We only have to follow the order of operations.

My Way:

7(x – 3) > 5x – 14

Expand ()

7x – 21 > 5x – 14

Combine like terms

Subtract 5x and add 21 to both sides

2x > 7

Divide both sides by 2

x > 7/2

x.3.5

The above is correct in terms of answer, but the equation was not solved in the correct order.

7(x-3) = 7x and 21

7x – 21 > 5x – 14

Add 21 to both sides (21+ negative 14= 7)

7x > 5x + 7

5x is positive, so subtract it on both sides to cancel out on the right side (5x-5x=0), (7x-5x=2x)

2x > 7

Divide 7 by 2 yielding the answer 3.5.
