left = 60

center = 250

right = 80

I have to say though – if this is how you do all your homework, it’s no surprise that you are failing math. Having yahoo answers people do the work for you isn’t going to teach you how to do anything but copy.

Get some help from your teacher and from now on do the problems – you can always come here and get them checked for accuracy after you’ve figured out how to do the problem. Then you’ll actually learn something.

This is the new reality of 6th grade math – and it’s a very straight forward one variable problem. I only say this because the rest of the school year will get much more complex.

Ok take a deep breath. We know that the center section has 10 seats per row. We also know that there is 5 more rows in the center section. Those 5 rows equals 50 seats. We also know that there is 390 seats is total. 390-50=340.

4+10+3=17

340/17=20

The left section has 20 rows.

The center section has 25 rows.

The right section has 20 rows.

Check: 20X3=60

20X4=80

25X10=250

60+80+250=390

3X+4X+10(X+5)= 390

3X+4X+10X+50= 390

17X+50= 390

………-50…-50

17X= 340

divide both sides by 17

X= 20

The side rows have 20 rows each. The center row has 25 rows. Check my math though 😛

edit: X is the number of rows. the 3 and 4 are the seats in each row, and they have the same amount of rows. So then when multiplying the number of seats by the number of rows for the center section, you multiply by X (number of rows in each side section) plus another five rows.

3L+10C+4R = 390

C-5=L

C-5+R

so,

L=R

3L+10C+4R = 390

becomes

3R+10C+4R =390

7R+10C=390

but C-5=R

7(C-5)+10C = 390

7C – 35 +10C = 390

17C – 35 =390

17C = 425

C = 25 rows

L=C-5=20 rows

R=C-5=20 rows

check it

3L+10C+4R = 390

3(20)+10(25)+4(20)=390?

60+250+80=390?

310+80=390?

390=390!

boring.freak is right – but I cannot believe this is considered 6th grade math! Unless 6th grade is when you now learn algebra!
