Can some one tell me if this math problem is correct?

Can some one please tell me if this is correct? $18.40

A pitcher sells for $46.00 which is marked up 40% based on cost. What is the cost of the pitcher? Round to the nearest cent.

$46×40%=$18.40

Thanks

No, that’s not correct. The price ($46.00) is 140% of the orginal cost, so the best way to do this is to create an equation:

46/x=140/100

Cross multiply the terms, so that:

140x=4600

then divide by 140:

x=4600/140.

The cost is $32.86

I think you are part right…the 18.40 is 40% but the cost of the picture should be 46.00 – 18.40= $27.60

I think….good luck

If it is being marked up than you should do $46+($46×40%)

If it is being marked down than you should do $46-($46×40%)
