On the first day of the tournament the boy met his first opponent and using the move taught him, he won the bout. He progressed through the rounds, and it began looking like he was a possibility for the finals. Now prospective opponents attended his fights, trying to analyze how he won using the same throw again and again. Eventually he progressed to the final. His opponent this time was far bigger, stronger and more competent than the boy, but the lad refused to be scared-off by the other’s reputation. The bout began and he gripped his opponent in the way he had been taught and threw him to the canvas. He had won!

Afterwards he found his Master and asked why the old man had taught him only one move.

“The only defense to that hold is to take your opponent by the left wrist,” the old man said, looking at the boy’s empty sleeve.
