The venders hawked their shoddy merchandise on the streets of New York City until given the move-along by the police. (Casual tone, as is the word hawk in this instance.)
Here’s your sentence: I saw this older gentleman at the carnival last week-end hawking this elixir that was supposed to cure everything from dry skin to bad breath.
How about “I hawked my underwear fearlessly.”?
By the way, several of the other answers are totally wrong.

Some of the answers are using ‘hawk’ when they mean ‘hock’ which is to pawn something.
