well…i think you just answered your own question with the new information you added 🙂 i read the play…i think you have to remember what time era this is from…blacks didnt get civil rights until the 60s…so even though they should be considered equal in the army—they were just as willing to lose their life in war as a white—they were still “hated” by their fellow platoon men because they were black…

its like they were good enough to fight for their country, risk losing their life, but still get no respect for doing so from the common man…
