There are so many it is hard to know what you are looking for.
Before photography, sketching and painting was the normal method of recording details of natural history.
Historical artists and enquirers like Charles Darwin travelling on the Beagle, and the vogages of The Endeavour which was the first primarily scientific research vessel.
