The “failure of the Virginia company” may be referring to the failure to find gold and silver in Virginia. The Company’s owners in England thought there was gold and silver “lavying around” in the New World…seems like all the exploration of the New World was to look for easy riches. Well, there was no gold or silver and most of the first settlers starved to death the first winter. Eventually, the export of better tobacco became the Virginia Company’s best source of income from Virginia. However, the company went thru a period of great financial loss, in-fighting, loss of supporters and law suits before being able to start making money. See 11th paragraph of 2nd website for how the company turned their luck around. By changing their tactics, the company convinced more people to go to Va…be the “work force”. Hope this helps. the 2nd article has good info.

I think you should do your own homework. I typed in each question you asked in the yahoo search engine and found answers to all questions. The first question I already knew the answer to and I am sure if you read your book you will find it quite easily. Think about what the colonists expected to find when they reached Virgina and what they actually found there, think about what they promised people back in London. I am assuming you mean role in Virginia’s economy, not exonomy. What was there big crop-tobacco. Tobacco requires a ton of work to produce. Who did they use to produce this-slaves. This should get you started. Read your text book, do reaserach online, and try the library if those don’t seem to find the answer. Good luck-
