ALGEBRA HW PLEASE HelP?!!!!?

you are building a rectangular garden. the garden’s laength is 10m more than its width.

the perimeter is 88m.

what are the length and width?

and another q……

you have been given $100 to buy supplies for tour teacher.

each pencil costs $2, and pen costs $3.

your teacher wants you to buy four times as many pencils and pens.

how many pens and pencils can u buy?

Perimeter (P) = 2(l) + 2(w)

88 = 2(w+10) + 2(w)

88 = 2w + 20 + 2w

88=4w + 20

68=4w

68/4=w

17=w(idth)

17+10=27

27=l(ength)

Second one has to be done as a less than or equal to problem (you need to put a line under the less than sign)

x=number of pens

4x=number of pencils

x(3)+4x(2)<100 3x+8x<100 11x<100 x<9 meaning number of pens is 9 or less, so the number of pencils will be 9x4 or 36 With 100 dollars, you can buy a maximum of 9 pens and 36 pencils

ok for the first question look at it all in terms of width. if the perimeter is 88m and you know that the length is 10m more than the width so really you have 4 lots of the width + 20 meters

88= 4w+20

66=4w

therefore w = 17

so you have 2 sides 17m and 2 being 27m

2nd question i used trial and error. if there were 36 pencils you would have spent $72 and with the stipulation of having 4 times as many as pens you would have 9 pens ($27)

you have not gone over the budget either you can give your teacher the $1 change.

hope this helped. =)

Okay – if width is “x” then length is “x + 10”

Perimeter is all 4 sides. So x + x + (x+10) + (x+10) = 88

That’s 4x + 20 = 88. 88-20 (move it to the other side) gives:

4x = 68. Divide each side by 4 to get x by itself.

x = 17 m Don’t forget the m label. So the width sides are 17 m each and then don’t forget to do the calculation for the length side –> x + 10 So 17 + 10 = 27 m.

So width = 17m

length = 27 m

Try adding them all up again to make sure it works

17 + 17 + 27 + 27 = 88 Check.

i a
1st question

w = x

l = x+10m

perimeter = 2(w + l)

88m = 2 (x + x + 10m)

88m = 2 (2x+10m)

88m=4x+20m

88m-20m=4x

68m=4x

68m/4=x

17m=x

so w = 17m

l = 17m + 10m = 27m

2nd question

no. of pencil = x @ $3 each

no. of pen = 4x (4x as many pencil) @ $2 each

3x + 8x = $100

11x=$100

x=100/11

x=9.09 but we are dealing with whole number since there is no .09 no. of pencil

so 4x=9(4)=36

so 9*$3 + 36*$2 = $99

88 = 2 x (length + width)

44 = length + width

width = 44 – length

length = width + 10m

= 44 – length +10

2 length = 54

length = 27

width = 44 – 27

= 17

2nd question:

pencil = x

pen = y

pencil = 4 pen

so, x = 4y

100 = 2x + 3 y

= 2(4y) + 3y

= 11y

y = 9

so, x = 36

L = W + 10

2L + 2W = 88

2(W+10) +2W = 88

2W + 20 + 2W = 88

4W = 88 – 20

4W = 68

W = 17

L = 27 m; W = 17 m

________________

x = pencils; y = pen

2x + 3y = 100

x = 4y; I assume you mean four times as many pencils as pens

2(4y) + 3y = 100

8y + 3y = 100

11y = 100

y = 9

You can buy 36 pencils and 9 pens for $99 and you’ve got to keep a dollar in your pocket.

2x+2(x+10)=88

4x=68

x=17

So the garden is 17×27

And the other….

4*2*pn+3*pn=100

11pn=100

pn=9

9 pens, 36 pencils

36*2+9*3=99

y im doin ur hw i have no clue but here we go

Question 1

perimeter equals all sides added together so you get

88=L+L+10+10+W+W

88=2L+20+2W

-20 -20

68=2L+2W

Now L=W since we got rid of the 20

so 68=4sides

/4 /4

—————————–

side= 17

Width= 17m

length = 17+10

27m

Question 2

your on your own
