Algebra question, any help is appreciated?

“You are the parent of a family with four people. It’s summer, so you know you’re going to go swimming a lot. Each time you visit the pool it costs money, and you would like to sign up for the Family Membership. How many visits will it take to the pool before you save more than the family membership?”

Family membership: $240

Per visit: $3

(I can’t remember if I phrased the question right, I left the actual sheet in my locker at school. I think that it’s right though.)

Thanks

240=3(4v) where v is the number of visits and 4 represents the amount of family member.

240=12v divide both sides by 12.

20=v

It will take 20 visits to break even therefore it will take 21 visits to actually save money. that is assuming all 4 members of the family go each time.

It costs the family $12 (4 people x $3 each) per visit. So it would take 20 visits to break even. You would save money on the 21st visit.

your equation would be y=3x where y is the cost and x is the number of visits you make. so, make y equal 240 (that is where the price of the membership is) so the equation is 240=3x. solve for x and you get x= 80. so if you visited les than 80 times, the individual passes would be a better deal.

you can visit the pool 80 times before you save more than family membership

how to do it:

y=3x plug it into the calculator and youll get that the answer is 80

I don’t really understand the question and how it is phrased…that could be due to the lack of the actual sheet

I guess it’s 80 or 81

Well, hopefully someone else will come up with another answer…

i dont think that is right or else u would just divide 240 by 3 and that is too simple
