a number line only graph? or x, y axis number line?

for the graph of 5:

If you are just doing a single straight line make a little filled in circle on the 5 of the number line.

If you are using an x, y axis – if for the x axis, you make a line that goes up and down through the 5. for the y axis you make a line that goes across through the five.

for the inequality x>5:

for the number line it depends on what your specific text asks you to do. are you using open and filled in dots, or the parenthesis and bracket thing? If the dots, then you use open dot because it is greater than but not equal to, for the other way, you use the parenthesis to mean the same thing..

so, on the 5 you either put an open circle or one of these- (

it will look like one of these on the 5

If graphing the ineqality using the x,y axis it will be the similar to the other one. it cuts through the 5 but is a dashed line. then they may want you to shade in the side that is part of the inequality. X>5, so shade the side that is greater than 5.

to graph 5 is just a line through 5. the inequality of x>5 is the line that shows all real numbers to infinity greater than 5.
