Alg. Help please. =]?

What is the axis of symmetry? How do you graph the function? And how do you find the cooredinates of a vertex?

Hmmm…sounds like you’re trying to graph parabolas and higher degree functions. An axis of symmetry is the line that splits a parabola in half right down the middle of it. The axis of symmetry always includes the vertex of a parabola.

For trying to graph higher degree functions it’s best to set up an x-y value chart. Like for example, y=x^3. Set up a table like this:

x 1 2 3 4

y 1 8 27 64

then graph the coordinates (1,1), (2,8), (3,27) etc on the graph.

The vertex of a parabola is always the lowest or highest single point on the parabola. If the parabola is shaped like a U then it’s the lowest point on it. The surest way to find the point of the vertex is using calculus, but I doubt you’re at that level, so graph it and eyeball it to find the vertex point. Good luck and hope this helped!!
