My best friend taught a speed reading class this summer and she told me that if as you’re reading run your finger under the words that you’re reading you can read ALOT faster. It’s weird and it works. Apparently it has something to do with the muscle movements in your eyes.

Another way to help you get through it is to set a goal of 5 pages at a time. At the end of the five pages, reward yourself. Go watch TV for awhile, get a tasty snack, go for a short walk outside. It will help you to not get too bored, and motivate you to keep going! Good luck on your test!

At what grade level? At Grade 7 or 8, perhaps its time to ask Mom or Dad to discuss workload with your teacher. At college level, its par for the ‘course,’ and at Grade 11 or 12, they are preparing you for college. You will have to balance a heavy workload with the other things you want to do.

How long have you had the assignment? If you only got it yesterday, the comment above applies. If you have had a while to complete the readings, then 1) get to work now, and 2) learn from the experience and set up a schedule to spread the work over several days,

Take it one sentence at a time. Do the best you can. Limited distractions from your study area. If you need an incentive, just imagine what life is probably like without a H.S. diploma. Like a lifetime of menial labor for minimum wage, without appreciation, and zero options. This thought is what i used in the past, and it was motivating.

Highlight it too. Do it five pages at a time. Doing this keeps you involved with the composition and shortens the amount of time you need to work.

Different ways to cope up w/ this:

1)Call your teacher, ask her/him to explain it to you or clarify it.

2)Try to read 1 page at a time and take breaks..take notes of MAIN ideas.

3)Call a friend..A SMART ONE who’ll actually help you and won’t end up doing nothing…study together.

4)Fail.

i would suggest 1 esp if ur still in school, in uni, i would suggest 2 or preferably 3…4 is always a back up plan..
