Just a quick comment on the nature of this problem: it’s really badly worded. The answers you have above assume that the 5.25% is a percent by weight, and I have no doubt that’s what the problem meant, but percentage can be calculated in other ways. For instance, suppose you have three pieces of lead, each weighing 10 pounds, and three pieces of styrofoam, each weighing 1/3 of a pound. Of your six pieces, 50% of them (by number) are lead. By weight, though, 30 out of 31 pounds of it, which is 96.8%, is lead. Whenever someone tells you that, for instance, the human body is 90% water, you always want to wonder if they’re talking by weight, by volume, by number, or by something else.
