8th grade geometry help?

I really have no idea how to do this problem.. help of any sort would be appreciated. If you do know how to do it, then can you please show how you got to the answer? Kaythanks! Here’s the problem:

Suppose M is between L and N. Use the Segment Addition Postulate to solve for the variable. Then find the lengths of LM, MN, and LN. (the line segment sign is above all the letters.)

32.LM=7y+9

MN=3y+4

LN=143

7y+9+3y+4=143 This is the equation

7y+3y+9+4=143 You add all the # with y together and add the all #s without y together which gives you

10y+13=143 then you subtract 13 from both sides to get rid of the 13 which gives you

10y/10=130/10 then u divide by 10 to get y by itself the 10s cancel

y=13
